A PG near Panjab University Chandigarh is easiest to find in Sector 15, which sits next to the Sector 14 campus: on Hostel360 as of October 2026, 16 listings lie within 1 km of campus in a straight line and 45 within 3 km. Widen the search to 5 km and the count rises to 169. Below: where they are, the bus cost and the hostel comparison.

Panjab University covers Sector 14 and Sector 25, almost 550 acres, says the PU profile page; the engineering institute UIET is on the South Campus in Sector 25. For every current listing and rent, browse our Chandigarh hostels and PGs page, and for the city overall read our guide to the best areas for students in Chandigarh.

How far is a PG near Panjab University Chandigarh?

Close. On Hostel360 as of October 2026, the nearest private listings are in Sector 15-A, 0.69 km to 0.85 km from the campus point in a straight line. The two closest entries of all, at 0.45 km and 0.59 km, are university residence halls on campus, so the realistic outside options start in Sector 15-A.

We measured straight-line distance from a point inside the Sector 14 campus to each listing's map pin; road distance is always longer. South Campus students should measure again from Sector 25. Data checked October 2026:

Band from campusListingsGirls-onlyBoys-onlyCo-edMedian Google rating (rated listings)
Within 1 km165654.2 (10 rated)
Within 2 km33910144.2 (20 rated)
Within 3 km451212214.2 (30 rated)
Within 5 km1694842794.5 (136 rated)
Within 8 km32681871584.5 (263 rated)

The 3 km to 5 km ring holds 169 minus 45 = 124 listings, and 169 ÷ 45 = about 3.8, so a short bus ride gives you nearly four times the choice. The 1 km band is evenly split between girls, boys and co-ed. Only 10 of the 16 nearest listings have any Google rating, so treat a rating as a reason to visit, not a reason to pay.

Which sectors next to Panjab University have the most PGs?

Sector 15 leads by a wide margin. Of the 45 Hostel360 listings within 3 km of campus as of October 2026, 24 carry the Sector 15 pincode 160015, mostly house numbers in 15-A and 15-B. Sectors 10 and 11, Sector 22 and the 36 and 37 pocket follow with a handful each.

We grouped the 3 km listings by address pincode. Some area labels on our site are wrong (several Chandigarh Sector 20 houses are tagged as Panchkula), so we went by the address.

For a pg in Sector 15 Chandigarh, start with our Sector 15 PGs and hostels page. If Sector 15 is full or over budget, the 3 km to 5 km ring is mostly Sectors 20, 21, 22, 34 and 35 by address; our Sector 22 listings page is the place to compare that side. Of the 45 listings within 3 km, 32 tag WiFi but only 3 tag food, so plan for a tiffin.

What does the CTU bus commute to Panjab University cost?

With a student pass, very little. Chandigarh Transport Undertaking lists a tricity student pass at Rs 400 a month for AC and non-AC buses. Riding on Rs 50 ordinary daily passes instead costs Rs 1,100 over 22 class days, so the pass saves about Rs 700 a month if you live beyond walking range.

CTU's bus pass note (linked from its website, checked October 2026, rates subject to revision) lists a daily pass at Rs 50 on ordinary buses and Rs 60 including AC, and point-to-point student passes from home to college at Rs 100, Rs 300 for non-AC and Rs 400 a month for AC and non-AC buses in the tricity, plus Rs 30 for the smart card. We found no single-ticket fare table on the CTU site, so this math uses passes, for a student in Sector 21 or 22 with 22 class days a month:

  • Daily passes: Rs 50 x 22 = Rs 1,100 a month, or Rs 1,100 x 6 = Rs 6,600 a semester
  • Tricity student pass: Rs 400 a month, or Rs 400 x 6 = Rs 2,400 a semester; per class day, Rs 400 ÷ 22 = about Rs 18
  • Saving: Rs 1,100 minus Rs 400 = Rs 700 a month, which is Rs 4,200 over six months
  • First month with the card: Rs 400 + Rs 30 = Rs 430

Which buses? CTU's local timetable as on 25 July 2026 shows routes 5A and 5C running via PGI, Panjab University, the Sector 15/14 stop and the Sector 24/25 stop every 15 to 30 minutes, with route 5A operating from about 5.45 am to 9.00 pm. Routes 2A and 2C pass Sector 15/11, PGI and Sector 24/15 every 20 to 25 minutes. From Sector 15 you can usually walk.

Panjab University hostel or a PG in Sector 15?

If you qualify, the hostel is far cheaper: Rs 6,030 a semester in a hall without a lift, about Rs 1,005 a month before meals. But PU only admits its own students who live more than 40 km away, so Mohali and Panchkula residents, college students and evening students must look outside.

The PU Hostel Manual 2026-27 lists 21 residence halls, 8 for boys and 11 for girls plus a working women hostel and an international hostel, for nearly 7,600 students. First-year students register on the PU hostel management system, merit lists are generated every Sunday until registration closes, and rooms are shared. The fee math:

  • Hostel fund Rs 5,120 + mess fund Rs 910 = Rs 6,030 a semester (Rs 6,330 where a lift is charged)
  • Rs 6,030 x 2 semesters = Rs 12,060 a year; Rs 12,060 ÷ 12 = Rs 1,005 a month
  • Refundable securities at admission: hostel Rs 2,000 + mess Rs 2,500 + canteen Rs 2,000 = Rs 6,500

Checks before you pay a deposit near PU

Visit in person, read the agreement, and test the house against your actual PU timetable. Most Sector 15 listings are numbered houses rather than purpose-built hostels, so rules about gate closing, guests and kitchen use differ from house to house and are easy to miss in a phone call.

  1. Match the gate time to your department. If labs or library sessions run late before semester exams, ask when the gate shuts.
  2. Walk it from your own building. A pin 0.7 km from the Sector 14 point can be much further from the South Campus in Sector 25. Time it before 9 am.
  3. Ask for a one-month notice clause. Hostel merit lists move every Sunday, so a seat can come through after you move in.
  4. Get deposit terms in writing. Our checklist on what to check in a PG rental agreement covers the clauses.
  5. Ask about police verification and which documents you must give; see our police verification guide for PG and hostel residents.
  6. Check winter and summer kit. Is there a geyser for January mornings, and does a cooler cost extra in May? Only 3 of 45 listings within 3 km tag AC.
  7. Fix the food plan. Without kitchen access, price a tiffin before you sign.

Your next step for a room near PU

Register on the PU hostel portal first if you live more than 40 km away. Then treat a PG near Panjab University Chandigarh as your fallback: shortlist two or three Sector 15 houses and visit them on a weekday. If you need wider choice, apply for the Rs 400 CTU student pass and look in Sectors 21 and 22. For the national picture, see our city-by-city guide to student accommodation in India, and for other campuses in this series compare our guides to PGs near Lucknow University and PGs near DAVV Indore. A listing on Hostel360 is not an endorsement, so see every room before you pay.
