Finding a PG near Lucknow University is easiest around the main campus at Badshah Bagh: on Hostel360, as of October 2026, 89 PGs and hostels sit within 2 km of it and 213 within 3 km. The closest cluster is in Babuganj, Hasanganj and Nishatganj, with Hazratganj two metro stops away across the Gomti. All counts are straight-line distances, and the road distance is longer.

Those numbers are for the old campus on University Road. The university's Faculty of Engineering page says its second campus at Jankipuram holds engineering, law, management and other professional courses, so check your department's campus first. Current listings across the city are on our Lucknow PG and hostel page, which had 969 listings when we pulled this data.

How many PGs are near Lucknow University's main campus?

On Hostel360 as of October 2026, there are 7 PGs and hostels within 1 km of the Badshah Bagh campus, 89 within 2 km, 213 within 3 km and 338 within 5 km. Supply jumps sharply between 1 km and 2 km, so widening your search by one kilometre gives you nearly 13 times the choice.

We measured each listing's map pin against a single point on the main campus, as the crow flies (data checked October 2026). From 1 km to 2 km, the count goes from 7 to 89, and 89 ÷ 7 = 12.7. Bands are cumulative; ratings are medians of rated listings.

Within 5 km338163108674.3 (307 rated)
Within 8 km529261171974.3 (487 rated)

This is a strong market for a girls PG near Lucknow University: 46 of the 89 listings within 2 km are girls-only, and 46 ÷ 89 = 52%. Co-ed options are thin close in, with none within 1 km. Our nearest listing is a boys-only hostel 0.25 km from the campus point, in Babuganj.

Which areas near Lucknow University have the most PGs?

Within 3 km of the main campus, the biggest pocket is pincode 226001 (Hazratganj, Narhi and Lalbagh) with 96 listings, south of the Gomti. On the campus side of the river, Mahanagar (226006), Aliganj and Kapoorthala (226024), Nirala Nagar and Daliganj (226020) and Nishatganj (226007) add 98 more.

The official campus location page places the main campus at Badshah Bagh, north of the Gomti. The largest pincode is across the river; the closest listings are on the campus bank. Localities below come from listing addresses.

So 96 ÷ 213 = 45% of the 3 km supply is in the Hazratganj pincode. Hazratganj has the most choice, browsable on our Hazratganj PG and hostel listings, but means a daily river crossing. Ten of our 12 nearest listings, all within 1.13 km, are on the campus bank in Babuganj, Nirala Nagar, Hasanganj, Nishatganj and Daliganj, and suit students who want to walk.

For a quieter residential option, look at PGs in Aliganj for students: our Aliganj listings page covers the area, which is on the campus side of the river, and the 226024 pincode alone has 29 listings within 3 km. Our guide to the best areas for students in Lucknow compares these neighbourhoods.

Studying at the Jankipuram campus instead?

None of the counts above apply to you. The university places its new campus on Sitapur Road near the Engineering College. Jankipuram does not appear on UPMRC's Line 1 station list, so budget for an auto, bus or two-wheeler rather than the metro, and search the Jankipuram and Sitapur Road side first.

How much does the metro to Lucknow University cost a month?

Vishvavidyalaya station on Lucknow Metro Line 1 is about 0.28 km from the main campus point. One-way fares to it run from Rs 10 (IT College) to Rs 30 (Alambagh). At 22 class days a month, a round trip from Hazratganj costs Rs 660 and one from Charbagh or Indira Nagar costs Rs 880.

Fares are weekday single-journey fares from UPMRC's Lucknow Metro fare calculator, checked October 2026; the station distance uses UPMRC's coordinates.

Board atStops to VishvavidyalayaOne-way fareMonthly cost (fare x 2 x 22)
IT College1Rs 10Rs 440
KD Singh Babu Stadium1Rs 10Rs 440

Charbagh5Rs 20Rs 880
Indira Nagar5Rs 20Rs 880
Munshipulia6Rs 20Rs 880
Alambagh9Rs 30Rs 1,320

The working for Hazratganj is Rs 15 x 2 x 22 = Rs 660. For Alambagh it is Rs 30 x 2 x 22 = Rs 1,320, so living there instead of Hazratganj adds Rs 660 a month in fares alone.

Mahanagar, Aliganj and Nishatganj are off the metro line, so time the auto or cycle ride to University Road on a weekday morning.

Lucknow University hostel or a PG outside?

A regular university hall costs Rs 4,800 room rent plus Rs 1,250 other charges for the session under the 2022 rules: about Rs 504 a month before mess. The catch is eligibility: around 2,500 seats, merit-based allotment, and no seat at all if your family lives in Lucknow.

Figures come from the University of Lucknow Halls Rules and Regulations (revised 2022) on the university's hostel portal; the Student Hostels page lists halls by campus.

ItemMain campus regular hallNivedita Hall, main campus (self-financed)Lavanya Hall, second campus (self-financed)
Room rent per sessionRs 4,800 (shared), Rs 5,400 (single)Rs 15,600 (double)Rs 24,000 (triple)
Room rent per month (÷ 12)Rs 400 (shared)Rs 1,300Rs 2,000

MessCharged separatelyCharged separatelyCharged separately
In-time8:00 PM in girls' halls, 10:00 PM in boys' halls

Worked out for a shared room in a regular hall: Rs 4,800 + Rs 1,250 = Rs 6,050 for the session, and Rs 6,050 ÷ 12 = about Rs 504 a month. Add the Rs 1,000 caution money and you pay Rs 7,050 at allotment. The 2022 rules do not print a mess fee. The 2020 edition of the rules listed Rs 14,220 for six months in regular girls' halls and Rs 19,440 in old-campus boys' halls, marked subject to revision. That works out to Rs 14,220 ÷ 6 = Rs 2,370 and Rs 19,440 ÷ 6 = Rs 3,240 a month, so ask the hostel office for the current figure.

So who needs a PG? Lucknow residents, whom the rules exclude; students who miss the merit list; returning students below 50% in the previous session; and anyone who finds an 8:00 PM in-time unworkable. We hold no rent data for this area, so compare live prices on the area pages above.

What should you check before paying a PG near Lucknow University?

Confirm which campus your classes are on, then visit the PG on a weekday, read the agreement and deposit terms, and ask about police verification, the in-time and whether food is included. Only 8 of our 213 listings within 3 km mention food, so meals are often a separate cost.

  1. Match the PG to the campus. A Babuganj room suits University Road classes, not Jankipuram.
  2. Test the river crossing. If the PG is in Hazratganj, Narhi or Lalbagh, ride to Vishvavidyalaya at your real class time once, then decide.
  3. Ask about food in writing. Food appears in under 4% of nearby listings (8 ÷ 213), so confirm the mess hours and whether breakfast comes before your first lecture.
  4. Check the in-time. If you are avoiding the 8:00 PM hostel rule, confirm the PG gate time is really later, including on exam-prep nights.
  5. Read the agreement. Deposit, refund days, notice period and damage terms; our PG rental agreement checklist covers each clause.
  6. Insist on police verification. See our guide to police verification for PGs and hostels.
  7. Plan for weather. Ask whether the room has a cooler or AC for Lucknow summers (only 19 listings within 3 km mention AC), and whether hot water works in the foggy December and January mornings.

No. The university's hostel rules say applicants who live in Lucknow, or whose parents live in Lucknow, will not be considered for any hostel. Local students who want to live near campus have to look at PGs, and re-allotment also needs at least 50% marks in the previous session.
