On Hostel360 as of October 2026, 21 listings name Old Rajinder Nagar in their address and 68 sit within 1 km of the colony's centre, so a PG in Old Rajendra Nagar is a small market. Karol Bagh next door adds 53 listings by address, with five times as many girls-only options. Below: the blocks, the Karol Bagh fallback, and metro fares worked out monthly.
Current options sit on our Old Rajinder Nagar PG and hostel page, with a separate girls PG list for Old Rajinder Nagar and a boys PG list for Old Rajinder Nagar. Listings that only say Rajinder Nagar are on the wider Rajinder Nagar page (its girls-only view too), the next-door colony is on our Karol Bagh PG and hostel page, and the whole city is on our Delhi hostels and PGs page. How much choice is there for a PG in Old Rajendra Nagar?
Hostel360 counts 21 listings whose address names Old Rajinder Nagar as of October 2026: 9 co-ed, 8 boys-only and 4 girls-only. Nineteen carry Google ratings, with a median of 4.6. Eighteen use pincode 110060 and three use 110005, the Karol Bagh code, so the colony edge is blurry on paper.
The table counts Hostel360 listings whose address text names each area, data checked October 2026. The "any Rajinder Nagar" row overlaps the two rows above it.
| Area / pincode | Listings | Girls-only | Boys-only | Co-ed | Median Google rating (rated listings) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Old Rajinder Nagar (110060: 18, 110005: 3) | 21 | 4 | 8 | 9 | 4.6 (19) |
| New Rajinder Nagar (110060) | 3 | 0 | 1 | 2 | 3.9 (3) |
| Any Rajinder Nagar address (110060: 23, 110005: 2) | 25 | 4 | 10 | 11 | 4.5 (23) |
| Karol Bagh (110005: 51) | 53 | 20 | 13 | 20 | 4.5 (52) |
Addresses tell you how the colony is laid out. Old Rajinder Nagar is numbered in blocks, so listings read like 4B/8, 11A/7, 52/33 or 63/7: block first, house second. The ones that name a street point to Bada Bazar Road and Salwan School Road, plus the market around the Akali Baba Phoola Singh gurdwara. When an owner gives you only a landmark, ask for the block and house number, because that is what goes on your agreement.
Rings around the colony
Address text misses owners who wrote only "Karol Bagh". So we took the median map point of the Old Rajinder Nagar listings as the colony centre and counted every Hostel360 listing around it (straight-line; walking distance is longer).
| Straight-line from colony centre | Listings | Girls-only | Boys-only | Co-ed | Median rating (rated) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Within 0.5 km | 26 | 6 | 9 | 11 | 4.6 (24) |
| Within 1 km | 68 | 20 | 19 | 29 | 4.6 (65) |
| Within 2 km | 103 | 38 | 27 | 38 | 4.5 (98) |
| Within 3 km | 158 | 53 | 41 | 64 | 4.4 (149) |
For girls the jump matters most: 6 girls-only listings inside 0.5 km, 20 inside 1 km, so 20 minus 6 = 14 extra options sit in that second half kilometre, mostly towards Karol Bagh. Boys looking for a boys PG in Old Rajendra Nagar have more inside the colony itself: 8 boys-only addresses against 4 for girls.
Is Karol Bagh a good fallback for UPSC aspirants?
Yes, especially for girls. Karol Bagh has 53 Hostel360 listings by address as of October 2026, 20 of them girls-only, against 4 in Old Rajinder Nagar. The colony centre is about 0.5 km straight-line from Karol Bagh metro, and 48 listings sit within 0.5 km of that station.
Most Karol Bagh addresses in our data fall in the WEA (Western Extension Area) blocks, with smaller groups near Saraswati Marg, Channa Market and Beadonpura, almost all in 110005. Girls can go straight to the girls-only PGs in Karol Bagh.
Two numbers separate the areas. The median Karol Bagh listing has 36.5 Google reviews against 8 in Old Rajinder Nagar, so there are more past residents to read. And within 1 km of Karol Bagh metro there are 74 listings (24 girls-only), median rating 4.6. The trade is noise: the WEA blocks sit close to busy market roads, so ask for a room on the inner side of the building. If you are weighing a PG in Karol Bagh for UPSC, time the walk to your batch on the visit.

What does the metro from Karol Bagh or Rajendra Place cost each month?
Between Rs 572 and Rs 2,236 a month for the usual aspirant rides, using fares from DMRC's own planner (October 2026). Rajendra Place to Karol Bagh is Rs 11, Karol Bagh to Rajiv Chowk Rs 21, and either station to GTB Nagar, the stop for Mukherjee Nagar, Rs 43 one way.
Inside the colony you can usually walk to class. The metro matters if you live on the Karol Bagh or Rajendra Place side, join a test series in Mukherjee Nagar, or study at a library elsewhere. Fares are single-journey weekday fares from the DMRC route and fare planner, checked for a Monday 9 am trip. The monthly column assumes classes six days a week, so it uses a return trip on 26 days: fare x 2 x 26.
| Trip | DMRC fare | Ride time (planner) | Monthly: fare x 2 x 26 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rajendra Place to Karol Bagh | Rs 11 | About 2 min | Rs 572 |
| Karol Bagh to Rajiv Chowk | Rs 21 | About 7 min | Rs 1,092 |
| Karol Bagh to Vishwavidyalaya | Rs 32 | About 27 min | Rs 1,664 |
| Karol Bagh to Laxmi Nagar | Rs 32 | About 20 min | Rs 1,664 |
| Karol Bagh to GTB Nagar (change at Rajiv Chowk) | Rs 43 | About 29 min | Rs 2,236 |
| Rajendra Place to GTB Nagar | Rs 43 | About 31 min | Rs 2,236 |
Three things the planner shows:
- Sunday tests are cheaper. The same Karol Bagh to GTB Nagar ride is Rs 32 on a Sunday. A weekly Sunday mock in Mukherjee Nagar costs 32 x 2 = Rs 64, or Rs 256 over four Sundays.
- Your boarding station changes the fare. Karol Bagh to Vishwavidyalaya is Rs 32, but Rajendra Place to Vishwavidyalaya is Rs 43.
- Do not pick the wrong "Rajendra". Searching "Rajendra" also offers Major Mohit Sharma Rajendra Nagar, a separate Red Line station about 53 minutes and Rs 43 from Karol Bagh.
Over a ten-month course, a daily GTB Nagar commute adds up to 2,236 x 10 = Rs 22,360, a strong reason to live near whichever hub your classes are in. Put your own figure into the monthly budget for UPSC aspirants in Delhi next to rent and food.
When should you book a room for UPSC 2027?
Book before the prelims notification, not after it. UPSC's 2027 calendar puts the notification on 13 January 2027, the last date to apply on 2 February 2027, the prelims on 23 May 2027 and mains from 20 August 2027. From 12 October 2026 that leaves 223 days to prelims.
These dates come from the UPSC Annual Calendar 2027, which lists the mains as a 5-day exam. If the owner offers an 11-month agreement, line it up with the exam rather than with the month you arrive:
- Start 1 November 2026: 11 months runs to 30 September 2027, covering prelims and mains with no move in between.
- Start 1 March 2027: 11 months runs to 31 January 2028. You arrive during the final prelims stretch and pay for months after mains, so negotiate a shorter term or a clear exit clause.
With only 4 girls-only addresses inside the colony, women aspirants should shortlist in October and November and keep the Karol Bagh girls list as backup.
What should you check before paying for a PG in Old Rajinder Nagar?
Check the floor, the paperwork and the timings against your batch. In this colony that means no room or reading space below ground, an agreement with the exact block and house number, police verification done before move-in, and backup power and mess hours that fit evening classes and late library sessions.
- Floor level. Refuse any basement or lower-ground room or study hall. Our basement room safety checklist explains why this colony is where that rule was learnt.
- Exits on a narrow block. Buildings in these numbered blocks stand close together, so walk the staircase down to the lane yourself and check it is not stacked with cycles or locked at night.
- Agreement details. The address should read like 4B/8, Old Rajinder Nagar, with the right pincode (110060 or 110005). Use our rental agreement checklist for notice period and lock-in.
- Deposit terms. Get the deposit amount, refund date and deductions in writing, and pay by UPI or bank transfer so there is a record.
- Police verification. Ask whether the owner files it or you do, and keep the acknowledgement. Our police verification guide explains the steps.
- Backup power in study hours. Ask whether the inverter runs fans and sockets or only lights, and how long it lasts in a May evening power cut, right before prelims.
- Mess vs batch. If your class ends at 8 or 9 pm, ask whether dinner is kept aside or the kitchen shuts.
- Gate time vs library. Ask the exact gate-closing time and whether late entry is allowed for a self-study library, especially in girls PGs.
Your next step in Old Rajinder Nagar
Mark your batch, library and weekly test on a map, then pick your ring: inside the colony if all three are walkable, Karol Bagh if you want more girls-only or well-reviewed options, north Delhi if your classes are there. For a PG in Old Rajendra Nagar, shortlist four places from the Old Rajinder Nagar listings and the Karol Bagh page, visit them on one evening after class time, and sign only after the checklist above is clear.
