Go out to 3 km and Deccan pulls ahead, 430 to 373, because Erandwane and Prabhat Road fall inside its circle.

Sadashiv Peth and Navi Peth
Sadashiv Peth is the most balanced peth by gender: 28 girls-only against 27 boys-only. Navi Peth, on its western edge, has no area page on Hostel360, and the data shows why: 13 of the 15 listings that name Navi Peth also name Sadashiv Peth, and Lokmanya Nagar tops both lists with 6 each. So search the Sadashiv Peth listings and read the street line. Navi Peth's median rating of 4.7 is the table's highest, from only 15 listings.
Narayan Peth and Shaniwar Peth

Is a PG in Deccan Pune worth it if you ride the metro?
Yes, if your library or batch is on the Deccan side or you share a room with someone studying elsewhere. Deccan Gymkhana and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan are both Pune Metro stations, and the official fare chart shows Rs 10 between them and Rs 20 from Vanaz. Living within walking distance still costs nothing.
On the Deccan side, Jangali Maharaj Road appears in 9 of the 35 addresses that name Deccan. Erandwane, just west, adds Pandurang Colony and Karve Road with 6 addresses each; current rooms are on our Erandwane PGs page. Prabhat Road has only 4 listings.

The worked example: an aspirant who rents in Kothrud near Vanaz and rides to Deccan pays 20 x 2 x 26 = Rs 1,040 a month, or 1,040 x 12 = Rs 12,480 over a year of preparation. The pass cuts that to 1,040 x 0.7 = Rs 728, a saving of Rs 312 a month. The card costs Rs 100 to issue plus Rs 75 a year, before GST, so it pays for itself in month one. The pass page does not state eligibility, so aspirants not enrolled at a college should ask at a station counter. Weigh that Rs 12,480 against the rent gap between Kothrud and the peths. We could not verify current PMPML bus pass prices on pmpml.org, so buses are not priced.
When should MPSC aspirants book a room in Pune?
Book around the mains, not the calendar year. MPSC's tentative 2026 schedule puts the Group B (Non-Gazetted) combined main on 5 December 2026 and the Group C combined main on 13 December 2026. If you are writing either, keep your current room until mid-December and plan any move after that.
The MPSC Tentative Schedule of Competitive Examinations page lists the 2026 schedule, published on 17 October 2025. It places the State Services Main 2026 on 3, 4, 17, 18 and 24 October 2026, with results expected in February 2027, and both December mains with results expected in April 2027. Its footnote says dates can change, so recheck before you sign. How that shapes a lease in the peths:
- Writing a December main: do not shift rooms in November. Ask your owner in writing for a stay that runs at least to 14 December 2026, the day after the Group C main.
- Starting the 2027 cycle: on 12 October 2026 the MPSC page did not yet list a 2027 schedule. The 2026 one appeared on 17 October 2025 and the 2025 one on 22 November 2024, so expect the next between mid-October and late November. Shortlist now and sign once you see the dates.
- Waiting for results: with State Services results expected in February 2027, a short notice period beats a long lock-in if an interview call may pull you to another city.
What to check before paying for a PG in Sadashiv Peth or Deccan
Visit the building at the hour you will actually study, read the agreement line by line and match the house rules to your library timings. Old peth houses and new Deccan apartments fail in different ways, so check the points below for the exact street you are considering, not just the area.
- Wada staircases and exits. Many peth rooms are carved out of old houses. Walk the staircase, find a second way out and check that parked two-wheelers do not block the ground-floor passage.
- Monsoon damp. In older Sadashiv Peth and Narayan Peth houses, check ceiling corners for leaks; books against a damp wall will not survive the rains.
- Gate time against reading-room hours. If your library in the peths stays open late, get the PG's gate closing time in writing, and ask whether it changes during Ganeshotsav, when the peth roads fill at night.
- Power backup for the study desk. Ask whether backup runs the fan and a plug point or only a light, and test Wi-Fi from your own room.
- Mess timing against your batch. Breakfast that starts after a 7 am lecture is no use. On Jangali Maharaj Road or Karve Road, ask whether meals are included at all and price eating out if not.
- Agreement and deposit. Note the notice period, deposit deductions and refund date, and match the term to the December mains above. Our checklist on what to check in a PG rental agreement covers the clauses that cause disputes.

- The real walk. Walk from the PG to your library or to Deccan Gymkhana station at your normal start time. The 1.1 km between Deccan and Sadashiv Peth is a straight line; the road route across the river is longer.
