PG near MIT-WPU Pune: Kothrud Rents and the Off-Campus Hostel Facts

Start in Kothrud around Paud Road, where the PGs and hostels closest to the MIT-WPU gate are, then widen your search to Karve Nagar, Gokhalenagar and Pashan. Stanza Living puts shared rooms in Kothrud at roughly ₹9,000 to ₹18,000 a month, per its Kothrud page (updated September 2026). One correction to what you may have read elsewhere: MIT-WPU doesn't have on-campus hostels. Its hostels are off campus, 2.7 to 10.5 km away, according to the university's hostel facilities page.

MIT-WPU's hostels aren't on campus

Some guides describe on-campus hostels in Kothrud. That's wrong. According to MIT-WPU's hostel facilities page (checked October 2026), student housing is provided off campus through a partner, Aaalay, in Ambegaon, Bavdhan, Karvenagar and Kothrud. The buildings sit 2.7 to 10.5 km from campus, are linked by shuttle, and add up to about 3,000 beds.

That changes the usual hostel-versus-PG question. Either way you'll live off campus, so the real choice is between a university-arranged room with a shuttle and a private PG you pick yourself, possibly a short walk from the gate on Paud Road.

What the 2026-27 hostel manual charges

MIT-WPU's 2026-27 Student Housing Manual lists, among other options:

• Kothrud girls' hostel (2.6 km from campus): double room, ₹2,10,000 a year
• Tara, Kothrud (2.8 km): AC single, ₹3,60,000 to ₹3,80,000 a year
• Mess: ₹65,000 a year, already included in those totals
• On top: a ₹25,000 refundable deposit and a ₹10,000 booking amount

The ₹2,10,000 double works out to about ₹17,500 a month with food. Take out the ₹65,000 mess and the room itself is roughly ₹12,100 a month. The manual's 2.6 km figure for the Kothrud girls' hostel is slightly below the 2.7 km minimum on the hostel facilities page; we've quoted each source as written.

How Kothrud PG rents compare

Here's what Stanza Living, one of the larger co-living operators, shows for the area (as listed, 2026):

• Kothrud: "roughly ₹9,000 to ₹18,000 per month for shared rooms" (Stanza Living Kothrud, updated 9 September 2026)
• Karve Nagar: ₹10,299 to ₹14,499 a month (same page)
• Near MIT: 24 options from ₹9,599 in Vadgaon up to ₹23,499 (Stanza Living near MIT, October 2026)

Against the hostel's ₹17,500 a month all-in, a shared Stanza room in Kothrud can come out cheaper or dearer depending on the room and whether meals are bundled, so check what's included. Smaller, owner-run PGs aren't covered by these figures. One data point from the Gokhalenagar side: NoBroker shows a boys' PG there at ₹5,000 a month without food (as listed, October 2026). For city-wide context, Punekar News reported in June 2026 that shared hostel rooms in Pune typically cost ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 a month, with prime locations at ₹6,000 to ₹8,000.

Where Hostel360's listings sit around Paud Road

As of October 2026, Hostel360 lists 38 PGs and hostels within 1 km of MIT-WPU, 287 within 3 km and 637 within 5 km. The close-in number is smaller than you might expect for a large university, but supply climbs quickly once you go past 1 km into Kothrud, Gokhalenagar and the older parts of the city.

Within 3 km, 117 listings are for women, 114 for men and 56 are co-ed, so women have slightly more choice here than men. Wi-Fi and security are near-universal (242 and 241 listings), while food appears in just 24, laundry in 3 and power backup in 2.

Kothrud, Karve Nagar and beyond: area comparison

Distances are straight-line from campus to the nearest Hostel360 listing in each area. Road routes on this side of the city, especially around the hills, can be noticeably longer, so check the actual route before you book. Rents appear only where a published source covers the area.

Using the Aqua Line from Vanaz and Anand Nagar

MIT-WPU sits near the western end of Pune Metro's Aqua Line. Vanaz is the terminus, followed by Anand Nagar and Paud Phata as the line heads into the city (Aqua Line overview on Wikipedia). Extension stations at Chandani Chowk and Kothrud Bus Depot are under construction.

That makes a PG near an Aqua Line station farther into the city a realistic option if you'd rather live closer to Deccan or the old peths and ride in each day. Choosing between the university hostel and a PG

• Want meals sorted and parents reassured? The university hostel bundles the mess and runs shuttles, at ₹2,10,000 a year for a Kothrud girls' double in 2026-27.
• Want to walk to class? A PG in Kothrud near the gate beats a shuttle ride from a hostel that could be up to 10.5 km away.
• On a tight budget? Compare smaller owner-run PGs, but price your food, since only 24 of the 287 listings near campus in our data mention it.
• Watching upfront costs? The hostel adds a ₹25,000 deposit and a ₹10,000 booking amount. Ask any PG for its deposit and refund terms in writing.
