Look in the Dhankawadi lanes around Trimurti Chowk, plus Katraj and Ambegaon Budruk next door: as of October 2026, Hostel360 lists 66 PGs and hostels within 1 km of PICT. Boys' PGs in this part of Dhankawadi mostly cost ₹3,000 to ₹6,000 a month without food, per NoBroker's Dhankawadi campus-area listings (October 2026), which is about ₹36,000 to ₹72,000 a year. PICT's own twin-sharing hostel costs ₹1,15,000 to ₹1,25,000 a year, according to PICT's hostel page.

Key Takeaways

  • PICT's hostel is twin sharing only: 106 rooms for girls and 76 for boys, at ₹1,15,000 to ₹1,25,000 a year plus a ₹15,000 deposit.
  • Hostel360 lists 225 PGs and hostels within 3 km of PICT (103 for men, 84 for women, 38 co-ed) and 66 within 1 km, as of October 2026.
  • A boys' PG at the common ₹3,000 to ₹6,000 a month works out to ₹36,000 to ₹72,000 a year, before food.
  • Only 13 of those 225 listings mention food, so line up a mess or tiffin early.
  • No metro serves PICT yet; Balajinagar and Katraj stations are planned on the Swargate-Katraj extension.

PICT's hostel: small, and twin rooms only

PICT sits on Survey No. 27 near Trimurti Chowk in Dhankawadi and is affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University. Its hostel is modest. According to PICT's hostel page (checked October 2026; the page doesn't state which year the fees apply to), every room is twin sharing:

  • Girls: 106 rooms, ₹1,25,000 a year with attached WC
  • Boys: 76 rooms, ₹1,25,000 a year with attached WC, or ₹1,15,000 with common WC
  • Deposit: ₹15,000

At two students per room, that's space for about 212 girls and 152 boys. If you want a single room, or you don't get a hostel seat, you're in the private market by default. The good news is that the private market starts right outside the gate.

The page lists fees by room type but doesn't spell out what else is included, so ask the hostel office whether mess, electricity and laundry are covered before you compare it with a PG.

What a year in a Dhankawadi PG adds up to

PG rent is quoted monthly and the hostel is quoted yearly, so put them on the same footing. PICT and Bharati Vidyapeeth are neighbours and share the same rental pocket. Based on NoBroker's listings for the Dhankawadi campus area (as listed, October 2026):

  • Boys' PGs run ₹2,000 to ₹7,800 a month, mostly ₹3,000 to ₹6,000. Twelve months at ₹3,000 is ₹36,000; at ₹6,000 it's ₹72,000.
  • Girls' PGs run ₹2,200 to ₹13,500 a month, or ₹26,400 to ₹1,62,000 over 12 months.
  • Deposits range from ₹2,000 to ₹16,000, compared with the hostel's ₹15,000.
  • Most of these listings don't include food.

So for a boy in a typical ₹3,000 to ₹6,000 PG, rent alone comes to ₹43,000 to ₹79,000 less a year than the ₹1,15,000 common-WC hostel room. That difference has to cover food, any electricity or Wi-Fi billed separately, and anything else the hostel fee bundles in. Work out your own number with this checklist:

  1. Monthly rent times the months you'll actually pay (12 if the PG won't let you leave over the summer)
  2. Food for every month you stay: a mess, a tiffin service or cooking for yourself
  3. Electricity and Wi-Fi, if they're charged on top
  4. The deposit, and the written rules for getting it back
  5. Travel, if you're beyond walking distance

Girls' PGs vary more. The top of NoBroker's range is above the hostel fee once you multiply it out, so a twin room in the hostel can be the cheaper option for some girls. Compare like for like on room sharing and meals.

Branded co-living sits higher still: Stanza Living's Katraj page lists Tartus House from ₹6,699 and Sarnen House from ₹9,799 for a double (as listed, October 2026). For context across the city, Punekar News reported in June 2026 that shared hostel rooms in Pune typically cost ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 a month.

The Trimurti Chowk and Balajinagar side of Dhankawadi

PICT shares Dhankawadi with the much larger Bharati Vidyapeeth campus, but its students tend to look at a slightly different set of lanes. PICT's crowd is mostly computer engineering and IT students, and the listings closest to its gate sit around Trimurti Chowk, with Katraj and Ambegaon Budruk a few hundred metres away and Balajinagar along the road toward Swargate.

As of October 2026, Hostel360 lists 66 PGs and hostels within 1 km of PICT, 225 within 3 km and 360 within 5 km. Within 3 km, 103 are for men, 84 for women and 38 are co-ed. The nearest cluster is very tight, with several listings about 0.1 km from the campus.

Wi-Fi shows up in 190 of the 225 listings within 3 km, but "has Wi-Fi" tells you nothing about speed or how many rooms share one router. Run a speed test on your phone during the visit, ideally in the evening when everyone's online.

  • Power: power backup isn't among the most common amenities in our data near PICT, so ask what happens during a cut, especially in the weeks before submissions.
  • Desk and light: a proper study table and lamp matter more than floor space if you code late.
  • Roommate schedule: whether you're in a twin hostel room or a shared PG, a roommate on a similar timetable makes a big difference.
  • Food: only 13 of the 225 nearby listings mention meals, so find a mess before term starts.
  • Notice period: if an internship moves you mid-year, you'll want a short exit clause. Our guide to PGs in Hinjewadi and Baner helps if work takes you to west Pune.

Getting to the rest of Pune

No metro station serves PICT yet. The nearest operating station is Swargate, the southern terminus of the Purple Line, which you'll reach by bus or auto.

The underground Swargate-Katraj extension is under construction, with planned stations at Market Yard, Padmavati, Bibwewadi, Balajinagar and Katraj, and news reports say segment casting started in May 2026. Balajinagar and Katraj would be the useful stops for PICT students, but there's no confirmed opening date, so pick a PG you can walk from.

If the hostel is full or a twin room isn't for you, the numbers usually favour a nearby PG for boys, as long as you budget honestly for food. Girls should compare carefully, since the upper end of the PG range can pass the hostel fee.
