Women-only hostels in Mumbai generally sit in the upper half of the city's ₹8,000 – ₹27,499 band, because the label normally brings a resident warden, staffed entry and lower room-sharing counts. Single rooms with meals sit near the top; twin and triple sharing without food sit near the floor.

Andheri, Andheri East, Thane and Goregaon carry the most women-only inventory in Mumbai, largely because they sit near the colleges and offices residents commute to. Judge a locality by your own route and how well lit the last 500 metres are after dark, not by its reputation alone.

Most do, usually between 9pm and 10.30pm. The policy that matters is the exception — night shifts, exams, delayed travel — so ask for the late-entry rule in writing before paying the deposit.

Registered women-only properties restrict men to the reception or a designated visitors' area, with a register at the gate. Ask specifically about parents, brothers, and maintenance or delivery staff, since that is where policies differ most between properties.

Andheri (both East and West) has the highest concentration of PGs in Mumbai, serving IT professionals at MIDC and SEEPZ, entertainment industry workers near Lokhandwala, and students at nearby colleges. Vile Parle is the traditional student PG hub near NMIMS, Mithibai, and SNDT. Powai caters to IIT Bombay students and startup professionals near Hiranandani. Borivali and Dahisar offer the most budget-friendly options on the Western Line's northern end.

IIT Bombay students look for PGs in Powai (near Hiranandani Gardens), Chandivali, and Kanjurmarg West — all within 15 minutes of campus. NMIMS and Mithibai students stay in Vile Parle West, Juhu lanes, and Irla, where the long-standing PG culture means dozens of options within walking distance. TISS students (campus on VN Purav Marg near Deonar) search in Chembur, Govandi, and Sion, which are on the Harbour and Central lines.

Extremely important. Mumbai's suburban railway carries over 75 lakh (7.5 million) commuters daily and is the backbone of the city's transport. Being within a 10-minute walk of a Western Line, Central Line, or Harbour Line station lets you reach most work and college locations in 30–45 minutes. Metro Line 1 (Versova–Ghatkopar) and the newer Metro 2A and 7 add east-west and northern connectivity. PGs far from stations depend on auto-rickshaws and buses, which are slower and costlier.

Mumbai receives over 2,500 mm of rain between June and September, and waterlogging is common in low-lying areas like Sion, Hindmata (near Dadar), parts of Andheri East, and Kurla. Check whether the PG is on an upper floor (ground floors risk flooding), whether the building has proper drainage, and whether the nearest station or road is prone to waterlogging. Western Line areas on higher ground (Bandra West, Khar, Santacruz West) tend to handle monsoons better than the eastern suburbs.

Western suburbs (Andheri, Bandra, Vile Parle, Goregaon) are more developed with better nightlife, dining, and entertainment options, but rents are 15–25% higher. Eastern suburbs (Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Mulund, Thane) offer better value for money with more spacious PGs, and Metro Line 1 now connects Ghatkopar to Andheri in 20 minutes. Choose based on where your office or college is — daily east-west crosstown commutes can add 45–60 minutes each way.
