Marathahalli
Marathahalli sits at a key junction on the Outer Ring Road where it meets Old Airport Road, which keeps it one of Bengaluru's most accessible areas for IT workers. The Marathahalli bridge is a landmark (and a traffic bottleneck). Adarsh Palm Retreat and numerous apartment complexes surround the area.
Jayanagar
Jayanagar is one of Bengaluru's oldest and most well-planned residential areas, known for its numbered blocks, Jayanagar 4th Block shopping complex and tree-lined streets. The area has a more settled, family-oriented character than the startup-heavy neighbourhoods to its east.
BTM Layout
BTM Layout is a dense residential neighbourhood between Koramangala and Jayanagar, known for its inexpensive PGs and shared apartments. Silk Board junction (one of Bengaluru's busiest intersections) borders the area, with bus transport links to Electronic City and Whitefield.
Whitefield
Whitefield is Bengaluru's eastern tech hub, home to ITPL (International Tech Park), Brigade Tech Gardens, RMZ Ecoworld and offices of Google, SAP, Wipro and dozens of other IT companies. The Purple Line metro extension now connects Whitefield to the city centre.
Bellandur
Bellandur is on the Outer Ring Road between Marathahalli and Sarjapur Road, surrounded by major tech campuses including RMZ Ecoworld and Cessna Business Park. Bellandur Lake (despite its environmental challenges) is a geographic marker for the area.
Koramangala
Koramangala is Bengaluru's startup hub, divided into numbered blocks, each with a distinct character. Forum Mall on Hosur Road anchors the retail side, while the inner blocks are dense with startups, cafes and PG accommodations. Sony World Signal and Jyoti Nivas College are local landmarks.
Mahadevapura
Mahadevapura is the administrative zone covering much of east Bengaluru's IT corridor including ITPL, Whitefield and the Outer Ring Road. The area has mixed-use development, tech parks alongside residential layouts and retail hubs.
KR Puram
KR Puram is a north-east Bengaluru junction where the Old Madras Road meets the railway line. The KR Puram railway station provides transport links, and the area is a gateway to Whitefield and the eastern tech corridor.

Confirm the occupancy of the specific room you are shown, not the block, and ask whether the operator can move another resident in later without your agreement.
Electricity, and the summer bill
The most common surprise in Bangalore is a room advertised inclusive of utilities that meters air-conditioning separately from April onward. Ask whether electricity is included, whether AC rooms are metered, and what a typical peak-month bill came to last year.
Entry hours and gate policy
Boys hostels here vary from open 24 hours to a hard 11pm lock. If you work shifts or study late, confirm the gate policy and who holds the key after hours before you pay anything.
Deposit terms and the exit notice
Expect one to two months' rent as deposit. Ask in writing what is deducted for wear and repainting, how many days' notice releases it, and whether any part is non-refundable regardless of condition.
